When it comes to our Compact-Grid conveyor belts, the drive components you use are very important for the smooth operation of your processes. To help you get the most out of your belt and process, Wire Belt Company offers three distinct types of sprocket components for Compact-Grid, each designed for specific operational needs. Understanding the differences between these options can help you choose the best fit for your application.
In this blog post, we will look at the different drive components we offer for Compact-Grid belts and help you to understand when and why you would want to use a particular sprocket setup.
As their name implies, these components are designed as one solid piece, keeping the highest hygienic standards in mind. This design allows for easy cleaning and ensures that debris has nowhere to hide, helping to minimize the risk of contamination and making our 1-piece sprockets ideal for industries where cleanliness is crucial. These sprockets also provide excellent belt tracking and ensure consistent conveying under demanding loads, making them a reliable choice for high volume operations.
The second option available for Wire Belt’s Compact-Grid conveyor belts are 3-piece stacking drive sprockets. For these components, the drive configuration includes one tracking guide sandwiched between two drive sprockets, while the idler shaft set includes one guide and two blanks: hence the 3-Piece name. This type of sprocket configuration is ideal for applications with heavier product loads. Quantities of the drive components are determined depending on factors such as belt width, length and product load. 3-piece stacking sprockets can also be used in inverted Compact-Grid belt setups, where the belt’s tabs help convey products up slight inclines, offering flexibility for a range of conveyor layouts.
Wire Belt Company’s slim-profile sprockets offer a lightweight and energy efficient way of driving our Compact-Grid conveyor belts. These sprockets are designed with less mass than the previously discussed 1-piece and 3-piece options, helping to reduce the strain on your conveyor system and allowing for smoother operation with less power consumption. These sprockets are easy to install and clean on the conveyor, they are also available in various materials, including stainless steel, polyacetal plastic and high-temperature PEEK, allowing more versatility for different industries.
